Day One Description:

Mental health and educational professionals who work with children can significantly
benefit from training in play therapy. The most basic skills in play therapy can improve rapport and subsequently relationships with children (professional AND personal). In this workshop participants will learn basic play therapy skills to engage children (from infancy through the elementary grades) in play therapy. Developmental and cultural issues relevant to this population will be addressed and many practical and dynamic interventions will be demonstrated.

 

Day One Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1) Identify three ways to use play therapy with children; 2) Replicate play therapy techniques
suitable for children; 3) Use beginning play therapy skills to address the developmental and
emotional needs of children 4) Accurately identify feelings in children 5) Explain the culture of childhood as it relates to Play Therapy, 6) Describe the play therapy approach with children.

 

Day Two Description:

Mental health and educational professionals who have attended Play Therapy Basic
Training 1 or have initial training in Child-Centered Play Therapy can significantly benefit from this seminar. In this workshop, participants will review play therapy to further their knowledge and skills. Advanced skills training through role-plays and practice exercises will be included to increase experience and knowledge on play therapy. Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on their previous training and ask questions.

Day Two Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1) Describe the child-centered play therapy process and have first-hand experience through
authentic learning and practice, 2) Identify key themes that may present themselves in a child's play and understand their significance, 3) Develop strategies for approaching common play therapy issues 4) Describe how and why limits are set in play therapy, 5) Create a foundation for utilizing limiting setting in clinical practice of play therapy, 6) List what toys are appropriate in the therapeutic play room.

Description:

In this small group webinar, catered to the specific needs of play therapy supervisors and supervisors in training, we will be discussing the challenges of providing play therapy supervision including supervision skills, identifying teachable moments, creating authentic learning opportunities for supervises, and addressing the nuances of the practice of play therapy. Participants are asked to come prepared with a specific supervision question or challenge.

By the end of this course participants are able to:

1) identify two challenges in providing play therapy supervision, 2) recognize what supervision skills are working (and what are not) in clinical play therapy sessions, 3) describe a minimum of three examples of authentic learning opportunities for play therapy supervises.

Day Two Description: PLAY THERAPY WITH TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN

This training focuses on using a prescriptive approach to play therapy, with the best of both directive and non-directive play therapy approaches for children who have been traumatized. In this course, participants learn about the emotional, behavioral, and psychological markers of developmental trauma, and the special issues these children present in play therapy, including consulting with parents.

Day Three Description: PLAY THERAPY WITH SEXUAL TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN

Children who have been sexually traumatized are often in need of our clinical services. Using the best elements of both directive and non-directive play therapy approaches with these traumatized children allows for healing and repair of losses associated with sexual trauma like innocence, trust, and appropriate boundaries. In this course, participants learn about sexual development in children, the psychological markers of sexual trauma, and the special issues these children present in play therapy, including consulting with non-offending parents, dealing with the powerful impact of countertransference, and setting limits.
