Day 1 Description:

Mental health and educational professionals who work with children can significantly
benefit from training in play therapy. The most basic skills in play therapy can improve rapport and subsequently relationships with children (professional AND personal). In this workshop participants will learn basic play therapy skills to engage children (from infancy through the elementary grades) in play therapy. Developmental and cultural issues relevant to this population will be addressed and many practical and dynamic interventions will be demonstrated.

 

Day 2 Description:

Mental health and educational professionals who have attended Play Therapy Basic
Training 1 or have initial training in Child-Centered Play Therapy can significantly benefit from this seminar. In this workshop, participants will review play therapy to further their knowledge and skills. Advanced skills training through role-plays and practice exercises will be included to increase experience and knowledge on play therapy. Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on their previous training and ask questions.

 

Day 1 Objectives:
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1) Identify three ways to use play therapy with children; 2) Replicate play therapy techniques
suitable for children; 3) Use beginning play therapy skills to address the developmental and
emotional needs of children 4) Accurately identify feelings in children 5) Explain the culture of childhood as it relates to Play Therapy, 6) Describe the play therapy approach with children.

 

Day 2 Objectives:
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1) Describe the child-centered play therapy process and have first-hand experience through
authentic learning and practice, 2) Identify key themes that may present themselves in a child's play and understand their significance, 3) Develop strategies for approaching common play therapy issues 4) Describe how and why limits are set in play therapy, 5) Create a foundation for utilizing limiting setting in clinical practice of play therapy, 6) List what toys are appropriate in the therapeutic play room.

Continuing Education - 12 CEs (6 per day)
